Westin Hotel Media Facade 2017

contemporary art, Digital Animation, LED art

Denver Digerati presented works commencing in early December on the newly installed media facade developed by SUPERNOVA Festival sponsor Orange Barrel Media at 16th and Arapahoe Street, one of the most visible and prominent corridors in downtown Denver. The facade is the most complex and exciting to date in the city, with a wide-format LED that wraps around the corner of the Westin Hotel, providing new and exciting challenges for content presentations. Digerati utilized previously commissioned works for the ongoing presentation, including Katie Torn’s widely celebrated 2014 commission “Breathe Deep,” as well as select works from SUPERNOVA including animations by 2017 festival juror /2016 award winner Raquel Meyers and 2017 Festival participant Arnaud Laffond. An additional animation by Jan Smerak Kolouch was selected fresh for the new initiative, wrapping along the entire length of the LED. In addition to the animations, which are in heavy rotation throughout the month, Digerati programmed two static artwork billboards for the location, one featuring a graphic commissioned by 2017 Festival Juror/2016 Award Winner Peter Burr, and a second featuring mixed media paintings by artist Andrew Huffman.

Digital Animation as Public Art No1

First in a series of 30-second animations running in a continuous cycle throughout the day and night (along with limited advertising) on a focal LED display in downtown Denver, Colorado. This cycle began in November 2018, consisting of works prepared specifically for the screen as part of Supernova Digital Animation Festival, our annual showcase of digital animation produced and curated by Denver Digerati.

Denver Digerati has populated this screen with over forty 30-second artworks/promotions throughout 2018, making it the first screen in the world to support a continuous, year-round cycle of digital animation .

Denver Digerati is the future of public art.

"Be Best" Promotions for Supernova 2018 at 41st Denver Film Festival

Denver Digerati presented a series of 30-second promotional clips preceding the annual "Best of Supernova" screening presented at the Film Annex as part of the Denver Film Festival. The promotions sample the 2018 festival's award winning animations, presenting them in a luminous context in a heavy daily rotation in Downtown Denver. An incredible sight to see, and another advancement for Digital Animation as the future of public art.

Digital Animations presented on Westin Hotel Media Facade, Denver, CO / 2017

Denver Digerati has initiated static art billboards as well as 30-second length animations for Downtown Denver's newest LED screen on a media facade located in one of the most visible locations in the city at the corner of 16th and Arapahoe Street. The site is above Skyline Park, directly next to the historic D&F Tower, and along the 16th Street pedestrian Mall. The facade, developed by Orange Barrel Media, is the most complex so far in Denver in regards to LED placement and function, with excellent viewing positions from numerous directions. Digerati sourced select works from our commissioned animation library, works screened at SUPERNOVA 2017, as well as others sourced directly for the format of this screen.

The static billboards include a composition by Peter Burr commissioned by Denver Digerati for the facade, relating to his animations "Pattern Language" and "Dirtscraper." The second composition consists of a series of mixed-media works by Denver-based artist Andrew Huffman, whose primary focus is on painting and installation-based artworks.

The project is presented in association with the Denver Theatre District, and SUPERNOVA sponsor Orange Barrel Media
